Introducing the new KEEN Whisper + KEEN Giveaway Contest!

If it were legal for a girl to marry a shoe, I’d be signing my name Meg Keen.  As it is, my KEENs and I are in a lifelong, committed relationship.  I’ve had the Newport H2 style for a few years now, and they’ve been everywhere with me:  to the tops of mountains, through rivers and lakes, to the gym, and even to one formal occasion where I accidentally forgot to pack my dress shoes.  (What can I say?  KEEN and I are monogamous.)  I’ve put these shoes through tests that would annihilate a lesser shoe, and following trial after trial, these shoes are still as good as new.  They don’t even look faded.

That made it hard for me to explain to my Newports that I was bringing another KEEN shoe into our lives.  I’m far from done with my first pair of KEENs, but when I saw the new KEEN Whisper, I couldn’t resist.  Some women spend hours deciding on which outfit to wear; now I agonize over which KEENs will be best for the day.

The new KEEN Whisper

The new KEEN Whisper

The Whisper, like my Newport H2, is specifically designed as a water shoe, but it’s versatile enough to handle any terrain.  While most of the earlier KEEN shoe designs are unisex, the Whisper is made for women.  The Whisper is more slender than the Newport, with thinner straps for a more feminine look.  It is also, without a doubt, the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever slipped on my foot.  This shoe required zero break-in time.  My Whispers and I hit the trail immediately, and we had a blast.  In addition to feeling great, protecting your feet wherever you go, and lasting forever, these shoes have been treated with Aegis Microbe Shield, an environmentally-friendly antimicrobial technology that helps prevent odor, staining and deterioration — so your shoes won’t stink!

I can’t say enough good things about these shoes, so instead of babbling on, I’m going to give you a chance to see for yourself!  I’m teaming up with KEEN to offer a free pair of the new KEEN Whisper water sandals (or the Newport H2 if our lucky winner prefers something a little more masculine).  To enter to win your free pair of KEENs, simply comment below and tell me why you want a new pair of KEEN shoes.  You must enter a valid email address so I can contact you if you win.  We won’t sell your email address to anyone — I promise!  The contest will be open until September 30, 2009.  One entry per person.  A winner will be selected from all the valid entries on September 30th.

While you’re anxiously waiting for the contest results, as I know you will be, fill your time checking out the rest of the Twolia site.  We’ve got some great new sections for music and shopping — enjoy:)

Good luck!

OMG. I have wanted a pair of these shoes for (at least) three summers. I used to wear Tevas until I lost my balance in a pair of them and actually broke my ankle. The KEEN’s look SO MUCH more supportive, durable and well made.

Please do enter me in the contest – these shoes ROCK!!!

  2. Greg Humphreys Says:

I want a new pair of keens because my daughter loves mine but they’re way too big for her! We could be an all-keen family.

  3. Kate Says:

I have been jealous of my kids’ hand-me-down Keens for a few years. mama needs a new pair of shoes!

  4. Nicole Says:

I absolutely love this brand. They are reliable, durable and support my foot like no other shoe. In addition…these are beautiful.

  5. Lauren Says:

I’m commenting!! I’ve always wanted some… my friends all have them:)

  6. Adrienne Hovey Says:

I have been looking everywhere for shoes that I can wear in my work as a dog trainer. They have to be good for all terrains including water, and look professional but be easy to clean. And they have to be durable enough not be ruined by dog…er…contact…of any sort. These are totally perfect!

  7. Allan Says:

My sister loves those shoes. How is the winner selected – is it random, or based on why you want them? Honestly, a pair of free Newport H2s would fill what can only be described as an aching emptiness in my life. Whenever I go running around in the woods, I don’t have a good pair of shoes. My normal shoes can get nasty in the dirt; most shoes are too bulky; flip flops or crocs, too wussy. My feet have been crying for free KEENs and I never knew it… until now. If I am the winner, I solemnly swear to wear them in the forest and in the urban jungle, to bike in them, to make music in them, and to live life to the fullest… in my KEENs.

  8. Noble Shore Says:

I don’t have any shoes that both keep my feet cool and are comfortable to walk in over long (multiple-mile) distances. Looks like these would do just that!

  9. Jenny Says:

Love it. I’d wear it to go hiking (every weekend), whitewater rafting (just went last weekend and have another trip planned this month), and kayaking (about to buy a kayak to go kayaking regularly as well!). Seems like the perfect shoes for these activities!

  10. Allan Says:

Are you selecting the winner at random, or based on the description?

Honestly my heart is crushed, because I wrote a heartfelt mash note to KEENs that somehow was not accepted by your server, and I lost it. I don’t think I can summon the mental energy to rewrite the whole thing, but it ended (roughly) thus: “If I win, I solemnly swear to wear them in the forest and the urban jungle, to bike in them, to make music in them, and to live life to the fullest… in my new KEENs.”

  11. Jenn Romano Says:

All I can say is that Keen is my FAVORITE brand of shoes EVAH…..I do own a couple of pairs, and my love affair with them continues to grow. My first pair I bought I thought they where cute, and then I bought a pair when I spent 7 days in Las Vegas, walking, walking, walking….and my feet never hurt. I have joint problems, and they never bothered me!! Now, I have convinced my sisters and my parents to have a pair, and all of my children each have a pair. I have worn pairs out using them for work, I am a landscaper……OH, Keen, will you marry my feet? Then you could never be apart?? I am forever grateful for you, Keen, making my feet HAPPY!!!!

  12. Sara Says:

Honestly, I’ve never even heard of Keen’s but I would love to try a pair. Once I find a shoe that I like I keep buying them until they stop making them. Could this be that shoe?

  13. John O. Says:

I want a new pair of Keens so that I can look cooler than #2 Greg Humphreys. Actually I’ve been consider Teva replacements and these come highly recommended!

  14. Michael Holroyd Says:

I’ve been seriously considering buying a pair of hiking sandals for the trail, but have been having trouble picking between Keen and some other brands (Teva especially, since I used their sandals for a long time). A lot of the trails here have streams running through them that get full around summer-time and I’m excited to try out the Keens since you’ve spoken so highly of them! ;)

  15. Julie Says:

I would like a new pair of Keens to replace the generic pair of hiking sandals that like to rip my arches open due to some shift in the materials. Oh, and because I LOVE free stuff!

  16. V-smooth Says:

well, I’m going to the whites with my dad to join him in finishing his last two peaks in the 4000-footer club, and it’d be great to have some fly new kicks to strut in style and comfort to the tops of the two mountains. Poetry, am I right?

  17. Carol Frank Says:

Shopping for comfortable shoes is a nightmare for me! I have given up on cute; ask Elianna. Between plantar fascitis and a bunion, finding something comfortable isn’t easy. A couple months ago I tried on shoes, eckos I think, and they were great in the store. I got them home and one pair I can wear for a couple hours only, and the other is okay, but not perfect. So I still wear these completely worn out shoes all the time. Help!

  18. Patty T. Says:

I’m a broke college student in need of good, durable footwear so that I can live an active lifestyle more comfortably in all the varied conditions of FL and areas I’d travel to. Almost all my old sandles have been ruined between my two years walking so much in Bahrain and coming home to FRFF. ;)

  19. Karen Says:

I would like a pair of Keens because then I would never have to worry about what shoes to wear hiking in the summer. Especially if they can go in the water.

And all the rest of the time, I can wear them to work because they’re awesome and would meet the ubiquitous “closed toe shoes” rule of the dress code.

    Keens are kool. :)

  20. gail Says:

    I basically don’t do shoes. Period. It’s
nothing but flops until the temp gets below freezing. Then it’s flops with socks or the occasional pair of Chuck Taylors. But, hey, if you say these are the most comfortable shoes in the world, I’m willing to give them a try..

  21. Kathie Says:

What a gorgeous pair of shoes. I have a pair of Keen flip flops I found on deep clearance and they are my very most favorite pair! I would love to check these out. Great website you have here! Your cousin pointed me to it.

  22. Cindy Says:

I want to join the crowd of those who are keen on winning a pair of Keens. The shoes appear to have great support and would enhance the whole walking experience.

  23. Hemisphire Says:

I’d like a pair so I can wear ‘em to one of them hippie festivals.

  24. Jonobie Ford Says:

I LOVE Keens! Want the newest pair! :)

  25. Tricia Z Says:

I would love these shoes because my doctor says that my sandals are awful for my back! Sigh! These would definitely meet with his approval ;-)

  26. Tom Says:

I have all sorts of foot problems. Having a job where I stand all the time doesn’t help. :-/

I use “aqua shoes” at home now as a sandal style – which I find very comfortable, much more so than most shoes. However, the ones I have now are getting on in years and kind of shot – your Keens sound like a perfect answer!

  27. ^kat^ Says:

WANT WANT WANT. You know I’ve been eyeing your Keens and others’ for years at FRFF… I’m pretty sure I can’t go another year camping in my wussy Croc sandals or grubby sneakers. Plus, these look like just the thing for a day at an amusement park (and they won’t fly off an aerial ride like flip-flops might).

  28. sue prins Says:

I have a pair of Keens clogs that I absolutely love! Ok… they’re not beautiful, especially after a few years wear, but they’re still the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had.

  29. Heather Says:

Keens, Keens What do you mean to me?

Hiking up a mountain, jumping in a stream?
I wear you with my shorts, I wear you with my jeans.
I can wear you with anything I put on it seems.

So vote me in for pair this fall. To run after the kids, and to the games and running here and there, et al….

I’ll wear them everywhere and proudly declare: YOU need some Keens, go out get YOUR pair!

  30. Kelly Says:

I would love a new pair of Keens because out here in the desert, sandals are my footwear of choice, year-round. They get a lot of everyday walking/biking/hiking wear so i need something supportive and durable!

And the wonderfully funky geometric patterns in the webbing would also do great things for the tan-line collection I’m currently rockin on these sandy bare feet!

  31. Julia Says:

I ride my bike a couple miles to school and Keens look like really sufficient biking shoes. Also, I have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating disorder) and Keens look like they breathe.

  32. Ben Says:

my feet like to breathe, and my sandals don’t have enough protection for a lot of the places i go hiking. these look like a fantastic option for me. closed toes and the ability to go through streams? sign me up!

  33. Annie Says:

I want a new pair of Keens because I have a shoe inferiority complex and a lot of adventuring to feel bad about. Save me from myself. I love the open-ness. These stinkers need to breathe. Also, I love that they can go on water or land like a Duck Boat.

  34. Will Says:

Ok you got me, these look amazing!

  35. Veronica Says:

I want these shoes because all of my other ones smell like feet.

    All My Love,

    Veronica

  36. Photomonk Says:

Keep hearing all of these great things about Keens and am ready to try something other than Tevas, so sign me up!

  37. Robin Says:

Meg, When I saw these at FRFF on you I thought they looked amazingly comfy – I would love to try out a pair for myself! And hopefully test them out on the FRFF terrain =)

  38. Adrian Says:

I am a poor college student and after standing in the rain for 4 hrs this past Saturday, one of my pair of shoes is waterlogged. I would very much like to replace these with some Keen’s. And besides the tan lines that these would cause would be quite the conversation piece. Thanks Grute!

  39. kenji Says:

Well, those Keens look mighty nice. When I was sailing a reed boat across Lake Titicaca (reedboat.org) the shoes I had really didn’t work super awesome. Those H2s look like they would. So Meg, hook me up for the next experimental archaeology project, or at least ask me questions about the best way to see Copacabana, Bolivia from the non-tourist side.

  40. Max Says:

I stopped wearing my Tevas because they made my feet stink. I’m ready for the new open shoe.
